Restoring archived files

You can restore any files you archived to a backup server. To restore the files, the system uploads the specified files from the backup server to the working directories on your user account.

If your account has been deleted, you must contact your service provider in order to have your account restored from the archive.  

To restore an archive:

  1. In the Shortcuts section of the Home page, click Backup/Restore (Administration section).

  2. On the Backup/Restore submenu, click Restore. The Restore form opens.

  3. To restore, choose one of the following options.

  4. Download. Downloads the file from the backup server to your active server.

  5. FTP. Uses the FTP utility to restore files from the backup server to your active server.

  6. Note: Large files may take a long time to transfer depending on the quality of your Internet connection. FTP is recommended as a faster and more reliable option when transferring files.

Restore by Download

The Download option is ideal for small files.

  1. In the Select Backup File text box, enter the name of the file that you want to restore from the archive.

Alternatively, click Browse to locate the file to restore.

  1. In the Email field, enter the email address where you want to receive email status notifications. If you do not want to receive email notifications, leave the field blank.

  2. Click Restore.

A confirmation dialog opens.

  1. Click OK to proceed with the restore.

Restore by FTP

FTP is recommended as a faster and more reliable option, especially for large files.

  1. In the FTP Server field, enter the name of the FTP server where you want to restore data.  

  2. In the FTP Login field, enter the login information for the FTP server.

  3. In the FTP Password field, enter the login password to the FTP server.

  4. In the FTP Location field, enter the absolute path to the backup directory on the FTP server from where you want to restore the files. If you leave the field blank, the location will default to your home directory.

  5. In the Email field, enter the email address where you want to receive email status notifications. If you do not want to receive email notifications, leave the field blank.

  6. Click Restore.
    The Restore form opens.

  7. In the Restore form, select the check boxes of the files you want to restore.

  8. Note: All the backed up files in the archive are displayed.

    The naming convention of the files are as follows:

    <webppliance_hostname>_<site_name>_<YYYY>_<Month>_<date>_<Hours>_Minutes>.tar.gz


    Where:
    <webppliance_hostname>
    is the name of the WEBppliance server
    <site_name>
    is the name of the site being backed up
    <YYYY>_<Month>_<date>_<Hours>_Minutes>
    is the time-stamp when the backup was taken.

    For example, backing up the site mysite.com hosted on the WEBppliance server mywebppliance.com on Jan 06, 2003 at 11.30 would result in the following backup file:

    mywebppliance.com_mysite.com_2003_January_06_11_30.tar.gz

  1. Click Restore.

The status of the restore will be conveyed in the email notification that will be sent to the address specified in the Email field.
